The Band of OZ in concert in Brunswick Forest

Each summer concerts are held in Annsdale Park in Brunswick Forest. This Friday the Band of OZ entertained the largest crowd yet at a concert in this North Brunswick County community in Leland, North Carolina.

From the Band of OZ's official site (www.BandofOZ.com):

"The Band of Oz was formed in 1967 as a part-time band playing fraternity parties and high school proms all over the South. In 1977 the band went on the road full time. Since that time the band has made an exceptional name for itself throughout the Southeast by playing the top clubs and corporate parties, and getting excellent reviews along the way. For several years the group has been a guest on most of the major beach concerts in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia.

The Band of Oz is one of the most successful groups in the Southeast, and continues to get the very best reviews from the top people in the entertainment business. The band now features a full horn section to total a dynamic eight-member group. They still perform well over two-hundred shows per year for corporate events, festivals, concerts, wedding receptions, and many other public and private events."

They travel with two vehicles:

And they drew a huge crowd at the free concert in Brunswick Forest.

The concerts are sponsored by the developers of Brunswick Forest and Cape Fear National Golf Course.

Under the Cape Fear National tent are REALTOR Kim Fanelli (standing on the left) and Cape Fear National Marketing Director Brad Walker (in the blue shirt on the right).

Denis Symington and David Kubes also work at Brunswick Forest Realty.

Attendees at these concerts take it up a notch each time. This time there were more tents and organized parties than any previous concert.

Here are some folks I hung out with:

Dana Fisher, Executive Director of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, Leland attorney Randy Rhodes, and Marge Brown (co-owner of Quantum Results Coaching).

Jingle writer Dean Powell and me.

Dean and his wife Jo-Ann Craig, Director of Financial Aid at Cape Fear Community College.

Artist George Murray, owner of Murray Art & Frame and ex-officio President of the NBCC.
REALTOR and Wilmington Town Council member Charlie Rivenbark.

The weather was nice (we had a welcome slight breeze), the versatile Band of OZ was entertaining and appreciated, and we all had a great time.

Thanks again to Brunswick Forest for these concerts, they're a great way to spend a summer evening.

My Adventure with Dancing with the Brunswick Stars - Journal Entry 14 - Our Eleventh Practice

New location, same dancers, and a new 'not-what-we're-really-doing-in-the-competition' video.

Dance pro instructor Kimberly Boggs and I are a team for Dancing With the Brunswick Stars. This week we moved our practice site from Brunswick Community College to an off-site location so we can go full out during the final month of rehearsal and preparation.

Here's Kim:

Last week we did the hula, this we we decided we needed to get tougher.

Kim explaining what we were just doing.

My just catching my breath.

So we had another good workout and are getting closer to the big date (August 6th). Today we also talked about costume and other preparations.

And in case you haven't heard about it before, Dancing with the Brunswick Stars is a serious, big deal fund raiser for Brunswick Community College. This year will be the third and final year of this event. Last year they raised more than $330,000 in scholarship money for students at BCC, so you can see this is a pretty big event. The actual event will be held August 6th, but you can go to the website today to vote, buy tickets, or even become a sponsor for the event.

Check out this website with photos of Stars and Pros for Dancing with the Brunswick Stars.

Membership Appreciation Night at TrySports

If you through Mayfaire Town Center  in Wilmington, NC last evening you may have noticed an unusual number of physically fit, happy people. The TrySports store in Wilmington held a Membership Appreciation Night for their Triple Rewards Club members and the turnout was strong during the two-hour event.

There was no formal agenda, though free food and drink were plentiful and there were several drawings for attendees as well as healthy discounts on apparel and equipment. At the register below TrySports Marketing Manager Frances Atkins helps one of the Triple Rewards Club members.

I was there to talk about my Sports Performance Mental Edge Training workshops and coaching. Also in attendance were Michael Downey (left) and Dr. Kathleen White (in the white top) from Atlantic Spinal Rehab and Wellness Clinic.

Massage therapist and health and fitness specialist Julie Blackburn was also on hand. A steady stream of attendees got complimentary massages and consultation during the event.

The parts and maintenance shop was open for questions and assistance.

Overall it was a well-attended good time for the club members and for the TrySports staff.
